+1, this thing is a torture. I am having much more fun with a jeweller's eye-piece

What is the magnification on a jeweller's loupe? I'd prefer one of these if it could handle x50-x60 or better.
Any 'real' microscope would be unsuitable, as they all rely on bottom lighting on transparent materials, with a very narrow depth of focus. The ebay/RS ones aren't microscopes as I understand them; for a razor you would need top lighting with a reasonable depth of focus, and relatively low magification, which is what they have to offer.
These "scopes" are also available through Amazon if that makes a difference.
