On Paying Attention... Subtitled, Man, that's a sharp blade!

Newb here... Second week of shaving. No more razor burn. Starting to figure out how to hold the razor for XTG and ATG second passes. Starting to get BBS in places. Enjoying turning a daily chore into a hobby. All is well...

This morning I was focused on getting my upper lip and the next thing I know I'm leaking down the side of my cheek. Where did that come from? I never even felt the blades square point fillet the cheek.

The moral of the story is that even though I'm getting better, I'm way away from getting good. And just because I'm using only part of the blade, the other parts are still sharp.

oh yeah. That styptic pencil works like a charm.

It's amazing how easy they can take a bite without you noticing. I had one square point that always nicked me behind my left earlobe. Took me forever but I figured out i was doing a small "flick" of my wrist and that was what was getting me.

Just remember if there weren't at least 10 drops, it wasn't a cut.

I suppose by that metric I haven't cut myself. Yet. Which knowing my luck means when I finally do, it's gonna be a good one.

But those spike points have certainly made me aware that the toe is never to be left without direct supervision.

I cut myself good once. Across the grain, not stretching the skin enough, started the pass at a steep angle using heavy pressure, while having a conversation with someone in a different room. The perfect storm of carelessness. I paid with more than 10 drops and still have a little mark to remind me of the lesson learned.

I have learned you have to stay focus. When the wife calls move the razor from the face, answer, wait then resume.

I have a nice deep scar on my face, compliments of the family dog growing up. I try to angle the edge so it doesn't hit it square but I still snag it now and then. Sometimes you can be careful and still cut yourself.

Does your razor have a spike tip? If so, it really should be muted on a hone. It won't eliminate the risk of this type of cut, but it will reduce the risk and probably make for more comfortable shaves. Took me two good cuts to learn that lesson.
