need to change way I shave

Hello all,
Been some time since I was here last...I had another baby (fourth), so time wasn't an option. I was doing a full face sr shave (and getting good at it), and now the wife wants a beard, but one that is just the lines down near the ears and along the jaw line and then the goatee.
So my question to you all is how have had to change it up and still had the angels to do nice "crispy" lines? Is there some secret? Also did you have the issue where you pushed your lines lower and lower down your jaw till they were under your jaw?

A spike point will give you nice tight lines, but you have to deal with the spike (yeesh). A square tip is a little safer.
Maybe add a little 4/8 or 3/8 blade for clean up.

I agree. Note too that because a straight is longer than other blades used for shaving, you’ll get truer lines. Which is a good thing indeed.

My advice is if you’ve never sculpted a beard before, that you let it grow for a bit - two weeks maybe, then find a good barber to start it for you. Then maintain.

I have a beard as you describe - no sideburns. Until you get consistent, I suggest letting the cheek hairs grow 2-3 days between shaves. That makes it easier to maintain your desired jaw line. Make sure you have good shave lighting and can get close to the mirror so you can clearly see what you are doing. Be prepared to screw it up a few times. It grows back ; )

Litttle late on the screw up part...shaved the ear line on my left side just about off....

When i was keeping a line on the jaw and sideburns, i found that a shorty worked great to get in those areas that a full length blade wouldnt fit. I had to be careful as it was easy to cut the line out of straightness. But it helped me. It takes a lot of practice to trim a bread properly with a straight. But as its been said, it growes back. And be sure to wait 3 or 4 days between shaves for a long while. It helps with getting a good eye on the whiskers so you know what your doing better.
