Thread: Introduction

I have been lurking on the forum for a couple of weeks and have a couple questions to post, so I thought I would follow my wife's advice on what constitutes "proper internet manners" and post an introduction, before I send a barrage of questions. In the past I have shaved with a Gillette Sensor II. However, it was off and on (most of the time I just wore a beard because shaving was such a pain). I basically would get one decent shave from a cartridge and then after that I would kill my face until I switched cartridges. It got to be such a pain that once I no longer had to shave daily, I just quit for the most part. I have been fascinated with straights since I first saw one in Lehman's non-electric catalogue. I even bought one off ebay, thinking I could just shave with it. No I did not really try, it was pretty obvious the thing was not sharp enough. So in my naiveté, I brought the razor to the local hardware store for them to sharpen. They knew enough not to touch it. Unfortunately, I did not, and proceeded to ruin the blade on a sharpening stone made for regular knifes. If only I had found this forum earlier. I recently bought another "shave ready" blade off of ebay from altima55 (recommended by the forum). I have an old strop I bought off ebay, that should work nicely, and am currently trying to come up with the other necessities to begin shaving. I am very much looking forward to become a small part of this forum. I am literally amazed at the amount of knowledge and wisdom concerning shaving that comes from the posts on this forum. You can not believe the amount of help I have already received from the forum without even making a post. I would also like to thank all the people that make this forum work. It really is a tremendous help to all men who have never been taught how to shave properly in the traditional manner, from father to son (my dad used an electric razor, that gave me the absolute worst razor burn) but know there must be a better way.
