I know what ya mean, Paul. I started when I was 17 years old, about to turn 51 in November. Its like breathing air, its instinctively. No thought, just do it.

I do things with a razor that would make a newb, shudder in fear. And do them without thought of it. Hell...I'd shave in the shower, if it wasn't for getting my razors all wet, and being naked. Good thing my belly hangs out farther than my...you know.

    Thanks Paul, good advice.

Interesting that you know what a slide rule is I reckon we probably went to school at about the same time.

If I were caught with one of those dog gawn calculator things in my exams, well That would have been he end of it.

I went to a boarding school so they were stricter and I couldn't go home to tell Mum.

Still, between boarding school and the army, I can use a slide rule, polish my shoes and sew on a button

Now if I can just learn to shave like a man!

LoL. This newb doesn’t need any help to shudder in fear, I just move my blade toward my face.

You'll get it man. You're just in the "are we there yet?" part.

Steve I've read through this thread and I think you are just trying way too hard! Also a line in your original post at this thread said "I'm wizzing through this shave"--It's not a race

I also think that you need to stop and do some thinking. Then just go back to GO and do not Go To Jail. Just start again by shaving just from your sideburns to the jawline then finish with whatever you were using before picking up a straight to finish the shave.

Do this until you are either blood free or only a small nick. THEN start underneath the jawline or under the nose.

Don't try for a BBS (Baby Butt Smooth) shave, just try to get a decent shave with any touch up with whatever you have used in the past.

This is an age old art. Back in the day when a young man needed to start shaving his beard was still pretty soft and he had a father, brother, uncle or even a neighbor to help him learn.

This age old art has a pretty steep learning curve but once semi mastered is very satisfying. Don't give up--Just Slow WAY DOWN

    Damn!
    That sounds familiar, Roy. LOL.

Go slow and easy Steve. You have many years to learn this way of shaving. And even after you have been at it for 2 or 3 years you will still find new things that help comfort. And... Leave the hones alone for now!
    It's just Sharpening, right?
