Hi, All.
Just trying to get into straight razor shaving, but there sure is a lot of stuff out there, and it's hard to decide what to buy when I don't really know what I'm doing. Glad to see that there are so many people here willing to help.
Anyone have a tip for where to buy an inexpensive starter kit? I'm really just looking for a shave ready straight razor and a strop. I can get a cheap brush/mug/soap from my local drug store to get me started.
Thanks!

Hi Redman, and welcome aboard.
If you want a good starter kit, check out Tony Miller's shop at www.thewellshavedgentleman.com . He's got starter kits with shave ready straight razors and strop packages...you really can't go wrong with Tony's merchandise!
Specifically, check here for his kits : http://shop.thewellshavedgentleman.c...c?categoryId=5
Alternatively, you could troll the Buy/Sell/Trade section of this board for a good inexpensive shave ready razor, and get one of Tony's strops seperately. You really can't go wrong either way.
Best of luck,

Thanked: 0Welcome Redman!!
Another heads up for Tony Miller. I purchased one of his starter sets, just a razor and pasted paddle strop. It came in shave ready and set me off well. I think starting on a paddle strop will help a little too, as it is not so easy to roll the edge with bad stropping technique as it may be on a hanging strop

Tony's strops are grade A, even the starter.
You can post a WTB in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and get a nice shaver for around $50 or so. That'll start you very well indeed..

Tony's is definitely the best place to go for a starter kit, unless you want to strike out on your own. If that is the case, then got the Buy/Sell/Trade section and post a WTB.

Thanked: 0I agree with the advice to get one of Tony Miller's starter sets. I could have saved a few bucks by buying stuff separately from various web-based sellers, but I spent about $150 approximately a year ago for one of the starter sets he was offering back then. It was worth every penny. I got a handmade strop, PRE-HONED razor, strop conditioner, mug and soap. I still use the razor (Dovo Best Quality) as my favorite go-to razor and the strop now has that broken-in look and feel to it. They both work great and will continue to be more than adequate for many years to come.
