I used to have a buck that would give an ok shave, but that was before I had a thick beard (16, 17). I doubt it would work as well now.

A friend of mine told me that one day he ran out of bics the day of a big presentation. He said he turned to an exacto knife. Poor guy.
It can be done, painfully and not very well, but it can be done. Anyone who brags about it probably hasn't actually done it though.
In the end, the jist of it is this:
"Any fool can be uncomfortable" If he can shave with a sharp stick, great. but did he ENJOY it?
I once shaved with a combat knife. I was backpacking through Germany, and had forgotten my razor. Instead of wimping out and buying a disposable, I used the Solingen steel knife that one of my friends had just bought.
EDIT: I got a couple of funny looks in the bathroom of the youth hostel though.
It shaved ok. My hairs were a lot softer then.
Even today I a pretty sure I could do a single WTG pass. It wouldn't be great and it wouldn't be BBS, but it would shave.
When I was active duty Army, I carried a Gerber drop point lock back knife. I did shave with it. It did shave but it didn't come close to my str8s.
Well, I once shaved with an electric razor. It didn't do a very good job and irritated my face but I guess it was better than nothing.
That dude in Predator 1 (not Arnold) shaved with a big combat knife.
I have done it on a camping trip with a good swiss army knife, but it hurts like hell and doesn't give a good shave. So, it is possible. Just stupid and painful.
