Default First shave and still alive

    Hi,
Just wanted to let everybody know about my first experience shaving with a straight.

So... This morning I got up and had a nice hot shower to start.
When I got out I made sure the door was locked, cuz I didn't wanna be bothered by my 2 year old the first time I have a seriously sharp piece of steel on my face.
Lathered up, I've been practicing making lather for a while now, grabbed my razor and carefully tried to shave...
It was pulling a little and that's when I remembered.... I forgot to strop.
Cleaned of my razor and stropped and tried again.
It was so much smoother. Still scary, but it was so much smoother.
I was able to resist the urge to shave my whole face, so I just sticked with the basics until I get more comfortable. I finished up with my M3, but hoping to get rid of that real soon.
For now, I'll just have to work on my angles, but I don't think I did too bad.
Didn't cut myself and that's a big plus.

I'll keep you guys posted on how I'm doing.

Tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Patrick

Welcome to the forum , I see you're from Baltimore , too . I live in Middle River , it's good to see another Bawlmer boy here . It will only take a few shaves to get over the fear of the razor , then you can start to develop your basic technique . Keep your blade angle low , and don't push the blade into your face . Remember that beard prep , and streaching the skin are very important . And always pay close attention to what you're doing with the blade , don't fear the blade but always give it plenty of respect . Have fun , and good luck . .....Dave

    Hey Dave,
I have to admit something... even thought I live in Baltimore, I'm not a real Bawlmer boy. It's a long story, but I've been here for about 6 years now.
It's good to see I'm not the only one here in the area that (tries to) use(s) a straight.
And I have to agree with you... I don't really fear the blade, but I certainly have respect for it.

    Thanx for the tips.

    Patrick

    Congrats on the first shave!

They will continue to be more enjoyable as you go along. As Dave noted, just be conscious of the blade angle/pressure, and really pamper yourself in the pre-shave routine! This part gives me the most pleasure during the shave!
