It's funny really, how watching one video of a straight razor shave can turn a normal college kid into a shaving fanatic. I watch a video about straight shaving then think to myself, "Man that's pretty cool, maybe I'll look into it." I then proceed to spend multiple hours on this forum doing as much research as possible then decide to take the plunge by acquiring a starter set from the guys over at Vintage Blades LLC. I went with the Ebony "Silver Steel" Straight Razor Set and during the week I waited to get I still managed to spend hours researching soaps, creams, brushes, mugs, strops, and blades.

My excitement was so overwhelming that I simply couldn't wait for my package to arrive so I took a 45 minute drive into downtown Houston just to visit The British Isles store. After a $185 shopping spree I walked out with a treasure trove of goodies (pics coming soon). The ladies there were so nice and they had a wonderful selection of all sorts of shaving supplies. Anyone living in the Houston simply must go to this place at least once. Tell them you've read about them here on the forums and they'll certainly appreciate it!

They big day comes and I finally get my package from Vintage Blades LLC. After opening my package the first thing I saw was a hand written "thank you" note from Jim. WOW, now that's great service right there! I quickly unpacked all the goodies and put some music on while I got ready for my first shaving experience. I took a nice hot shower lathered up with some Taylor of Old Bond Street and proceed to TEAR MY FACE OFF!!! My first shave was absolutely horrible, and afterwards it felt as if my face was on fire! I simply couldn't understand what had gone wrong so I hit the forums like a man on a mission. Come to find out my blade angle was all wrong. So the next day I shaved with an adjusted angle and it was a completely different shave altogether! I must say gents I have never enjoyed such close shaves in all my life. I now look forward to shaving everyday.

Thank you to everyone here at straight razor place for guiding another mislead youth into this wonderful hobby that I once took for granted!
