    Default first razor

Hello all i am interested in buying a straight razor and found a Dovo "Classic Black", 5/8" Carbon Steel Straight Razor on the vintage blades site and was wondering if that would be good to start with. Thanks

I agree, you can't really go wrong with a Dovo. My first razor is the basic Dovo, and it served me well. You could also have a look in the Classifieds here on this site too, since I'm sure you could get a great razor at a comparable price, if not cheaper. Just make sure it's advertised as shave-ready if you do choose to go that route. Good luck!

I am also new to the business and i just got a Solingen 5/8'' straight razor with black handle and carbon steel blade because I was told that its pretty good for a noob. I later on should spend maybe more money on a better one once I decided if I stick with it or not.....

    Hi
I started straight razor shaving in early November this year. I bought the Classic Black with the shave ready option from Vintageblades myself. I'm very happy with. It feels right in my hand.
    Good Luck

of course it's a matter of opinion, but i wouldn't call dovo top of the shelf maker. they make good razors, but their top shelf razors seems to have been made decades ago. at least from what i've experienced.
in any case it would be a pretty good razor and for a new one it's a fairly good option. I'd still recommend spending the extra 20 or so, if you can, and getting the imitation tortoise shell one.

take thier good advice and get it honed by lynn if you order it from vintage blades i ordered mine that way and it has helped me a lot by knowing how the blade is supposed to feel and took all the guesswork out of weather is was the blade or my technique and also helped my stropping because i knew how the blade was meant to cut i hope you find this helpful
