Thanked: 0Have some questions!
I've been doing the research but it's VERY hard to find an unbiased opinion on anything.. And I figured it'd be best to ask a group of well-knowledgeable people who can actually help me out.
I've been looking into straight razor shaving for a while, and my girlfriend mentioned buying me one.
I've seen the name Dovo everywhere and am assuming it's a good place to start.
She also wanted to get something engraved.. I assume the handle's the best place to do it. Any websites that offer a razor, engraving, and honing?
Thanks!

my first razor was a Dovo and i still use it as it shaves great. as far as the engraving goes sorry but i have no idea.
BTW don't forget about needing a strop. it is essential and they aren't expensive. i would recommend you start using a brush and soap or a good cream also as it makes a big difference. contrary to what some believe they aren't hard to use and time consuming.
hope this helps and hopefully you get into it as straight shaving is great.

I know of only one described as "engravable" here.
I imagine that those without plate could be also be engraved, they're just not designed to be.
You'll find DOVO's almost anywhere they sell straight razors: Vintage Blade, Straight Razor Design, Classic Shaving, etc,.

Thanked: 3164A Mr DOrp and a Mr VOos started DOVO. It is in Solingen, Germany. Solingen is renowned as a city fo fine swordsmiths and razor makers. Dovo is a well known and well regarded name, though it's not the only one. They make several razors with little plaques in the scale for engraving on - I think the Ebony brand is one of them. As far as the best deal goes, just enter "Dovo razor" in your search engine and google away! They aren't cheap, and unless you can buy one that someone has made shaveready (ignore the "shave-ready" claims on the factory packaging - they may or may not be shaveready, usually they aren't) plan on sending it to a honemeister. Don't forget that at the very least you will also need a strop. If you don't want to spend too much, look into shave-ready older razors to begin your journey with...

Neil
