Think of a scuttle as 2 bowls, a small one inserted into a larger one. You can fill hot water in between the 2 bowls.
The lather you make in it and the brush you rest in it stay warm in between passes. :)
Err, yes! :)
so you dont actually store your soap in it, you just make lather in the top bowl?. i will take advantage then
Yes, you make lather and it stays warm, as does the brush. :)
To store soap, you could ask your friend to make you a smaller bowl and to make the scuttle so that the smaller soap holding bowl fits into the scuttle standing up and upside down. That way, you can soften the soap.
Pretty much like the scuttles and soap dishes from SWK:

Scuttles were utilized around the turn of the century before houses had hot running water. You'd put boiling water into the scuttle and let your brush rest in the spout. Many vintage scuttles, like mine, have vent holes where the soap rests so that the steam would soften up the soap. They're an old ideal which still makes for a nice shave...:tu
There are also variations on the traditional scuttle now.
Here is a good review of the three major ones, Moss Scuttle, Georgetown Scuttle, Dirtybird Scuttle
A Wordy Review of Three Popular Scuttles - Badger & Blade
Once you go scuttle, there's no rebuttle :rofl2:
Interesting to read that the GP scuttles dont keep the lather warm - I didnt realize that, having seen them mentioned here more or less favorably. Sounds like that Canadian one is the one to go for? - Although that's small. What about the Kraut scuttles? They're larger - do they keep the lather warm?
i dont have any personal experience with any of them. I have read very good things about the Dirtybird and they actually just added one that is twice the size i think, which is good if you are a bowl latherer.
The only thing bad about the moss scuttle is the shipping from canada.
