Interesting to read that the GP scuttles dont keep the lather warm - I didnt realize that, having seen them mentioned here more or less favorably. Sounds like that Canadian one is the one to go for? - Although that's small. What about the Kraut scuttles? They're larger - do they keep the lather warm?

i dont have any personal experience with any of them. I have read very good things about the Dirtybird and they actually just added one that is twice the size i think, which is good if you are a bowl latherer.

The only thing bad about the moss scuttle is the shipping from canada.

I'm very tempted to buy the Schwarzweisskeramik scuttle, but I'm the kind of person who can't help but try to make my own version.

So far I have a good working solution: Fill an insulated food server with hot water.

Mix lather in an old bowl I found in a cupboard.

Put bowl into water in food server to keep it warm...

However, I have stumbled across what might be the perfect component of a home-made scuttle.
    Behold the "posy vase/bowl"

Available from ebay in widths of 5" to 8" across, with a 2"-3" well in the middle suitable for holding a brush, aren't these things just ideal for putting on top of an appropriately sized bowl for making a scuttle?

I've been using a Moss for over a year and I love the thing. Dr Chris designed it so that the edges were close to the bristles giving good heat transfer. It wasn't meant to have lather made in the scuttle. The Moss scuttle and the bowl Straight Razor Designs carries, the one that is tall with the angled top, are perfection to me.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have been thinking about purchasing the brush scuttle from dirtybird.
