    Default this morning's 'nip'

I had my fifth straight razor shave today - with the Dovo I got from SRD - and it was the best yet - I increaed my strop speed, made sure the razor was flat on the strop, mixed up a Willaims / kiss my face superlather, and worked the angles better than ever - I een atempted to switch hands, as I find shaving the left side of my face with my right hand the angle is tough and the shave not so good.

I was just fionishing up the second pass, and was mving down to the point of my chin and...BAM! I moved the razor down and to the right... and took out a very tidy slice of chin-meat! bled a LOT...but a styptic after clsoed it up nicely.

I was feeling good about how it was progressing - i was managing the chin area well, not over-confident by any means, but the razor nipped me to remind me who is really boss....

It always seem to happen this way, once you think you are in control, an accident happen to remind you that you are not. The thing to do is let the wound heal if it is too big and go back on the horse as soon as possible. I recently got my first decent size cut, it was not fun but it is gone by now. I applied aloe vera and the bump disappeared quickly. I was able to shave the next day. I rubbed some of that antiseptic ointment to prevent infection. It worked really well for me.

    Hate when that happens........

I'm bettin' most of us have had those little reminders though. The triple anti-biotic ointment does work very well though.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

I find there has to be a sweet spot between focus and relaxation. If you're too focused and worried about cutting yourself, you'll cut yourself. But if you're too relaxed, you'll get sloppy and cut yourself!

    greetings Barry,

you live and you learn. stick with it. yesterday i had double trouble. it's like my 9th shave (no going back to DE) shaving with a spike point the left side of the moustache and nick. didn't really know till after when i saw one little dew drop of blood. Well worth it, spike points rock.

But then afterward, feeling complacent i grabbed the razor when i was getting ready to take a pick for SOTD and i grabbed the blade side. Blade went right in the finger. You know it's kind of deep when it tingles letting you know you cut some nice nerves. Funny thing it just closed right up. super clean cut like a surgeon.

Don't worry about getting cut. what's the worse that could happen? a scar? sh%# will buff out. No worries.

    regards,
    m.a.d.

My first shave with a spike point went similarly. Not only did I take out a little slice on my chin, but I filleted my jaw in front of and below my right ear. A nice, deep cut about an inch long, which quickly released a trickle of blood down my jaw and into the sink. I got careless and forgot that the spike point was not round like my other razor, and went a little fast to boot.

I'll never make that mistake again. It's been over a week, and it still has not completely healed. I always thought that smart quip about shaving with an instrument that can quickly make the water in the sink run red was funny. It might be funny still, but it's also true.

I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one it's happened to.

Thats actually a popular spot to get cut especially with spike points. You move the razor to get under the ear and get it to close to your face and there ya go.........

Ah yes. Those little lessons in respect. Good to learn them early.

You might want to minimize shaving for a while. I felt my razor bounce on my cheek last week and sure enough I'd nicked myself. I find giving the skin the chance to heal, say an extra day between shaves, helps cuts and nicks heal very fast and very well.

The straight edge is so sharp I rarely feel the nick on my face at all, I have to detect it with my shaving hand.
