ok for my question... say i want to get a puck of shaving soap to fit a certain container. how can i melt that soap down safley to do so. im sure its pretty easy, i just dont want to go ahead and do it just incase im wrong
Good job on the left handed shave--I'm still scared to try it. Good on you!

As for your question, if the soap is glycerin based (TGQ, Van Der Hagen, Col. Conk, etc.) you can put it in the container you want it to fit, and put it in the microwave. Give it a few short (5-10 SECOND bursts) until it melts. DON'T over heat it, it'll boil and you'll ruin it. You can also use a double boiler, it's a bit safer and sometimes microwaving can harm scents, so it might be better.

A tallow based soap, like Tabac or MWF, will not melt--don't try it, you'll ruin it. You can grate it down with a cheese grater and then press it down into the container you want it to fit. You might need to add a few drops of water to soften it.
