    Default Mehaz razors

Hello everyone. I am new to the world of straight razors.I just bought my first one, made by Mehaz International. Is this a good qualtiy razor? The description says it is from soligen , Germany. I bought it through Bowman barber supply. Any advice would be appreciated.

Very interesting. I've not personally heard of them, but that doesn't mean much.

If it really is a solingen razor, (there are lots of fakes after all) then that's a very good price.

I suspect that it will not be sharp enough to actually shave with until you send it out to a honemeister.

I just did a free honing for a Mehaz razor this week. I first honed it without tape and after finishing it I found that it had severe micro-nicking when I examined it under the microscope. I re-honed it with tape and managed to put a decent edge on it the second time. It shaved just fine. Given the way the steel at the edge seemed so fragile, I'm not sure how long it will stay sharp. Maybe it will, maybe it won't.

@ razorman: try and cancel the order and buy something decent from the classifieds.

How do I send you a pm? Thanks for your offer for free honing. I am beginning to think I made a mistake buying a Mehaz razor. How much would the shipping run?

You can send a PM two ways:
    1. If you go to the upper right section of the page, you will see
    Welcome, Username
    You last visited:XXXXXXXX
Private Messages: Unread #, Total #

Just click on "Private Messages" and navigate around there till you see "send new message" and hopefully you'll figure it out from there.

    2. If you click on the username above the avatar of anyone who has posted, you will get a drop down menu. One of those messages is "send private message." Click that one.

When you get a responding PM, you will see that your Unread private message count has increased. Click "Private Messages" to read the messages.

Regarding shipping, in the US first class shipping generally will run around $1.50 to $2.50 for first class postage.

I too bought a Mehaz from Bowman, in fact mine is the one Utopian just honed. I bought it before knowing about SRP. After finding SRP and getting educated I bought two Dovo's from Vintage Blades, LLC. As far as the Mehaz, I just got it back from Utopian yesterday and shaved with it this morning. Actually it did a wonderful job, Utopian put an incredible edge on it for me. However knowing what I know now about Mehaz I would shy away from buying one. For the price I paid I see now that I could have bought a very nice vintage high quality razor. It did shave well, but how long the edge holds up is yet to be seen, as I am under the impression the steel is of poor quality. Thanks again to Utopian for taking the time to hone it, and for such an incredible job on what was basically not much more than a butter knife when I sent to to him!

    Dan
