Default A most enjoyable Sunday afternoon

As a new person to straight razor shaving (have never shaved with a straight) I have had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Randydance062449. I went there with some razors I picked up at a garage sale and he evaluated them and he found several that will be able to be restored. His knowledge of razors and the history and process of restoring a blade was IMHO phenomenal. His very manner was patient and kind. He was able to show me his method of restoring a blade to get it shave ready.
We spent the entire afternoon talking about razors, steel and the different types of stones one could use to reduce the time and effort to make a blade ready to shave. I wish I was able to do something to repay this man for the mentoring and knowledge he imparted to me.
I hope that anyone on here who has an interest in learning this art will take the time to contact one of the mentor here on this board because it will be an experience of a lifetime. The feeling I had going into this was that this will be a simple thing, I am a smart person with skills to do this. However, I found myself in another exciting world that make one wanting MORE!
I left his place with the feeling that I have found a new friend, one who I can share thoughts and ideas with. Randy got one razor ready for me to shave with and we have set up a meeting this coming Wednesday to sit down and I will get to show him if I learned and am able to get one of the practice" junk" blades into shave ready condition.
It was a really fun and enjoyable time and hope that people who are interested in learning more about razors, methods and techniques will get in touch with one of the mentors on this board and learn all you can about this fascinating pastime.
Thanks Randy, your time was appreciated more than I can say.
