The Death of Mach3!
Hi Guys,
Been reading this forum for the last few weeks, and have enjoyed it immensely. I have been toying with the idea of getting myself a straight razor for a number of years, but today, my mind was made up. I had to pay £10 for a pack of 8 Mach3 blades! Im not sure of the price in the US, but i thought to myself, 'Enough is enough'! Bloody daylight robbery!
After reading up on SR's on the site, i have decided to go for the Gold Dollar SR and Filley strop from RupRazor, which after conversion, costs £44 including shipping. Surely a more cost effective way of 'Having a scrape'. Wish me luck!

Thats a good little starter set and many people on this forum have it.
Check the Wiki for advice as well, theres a link at the top of the page.
The more you get into this the more you'll see theres a whole world of fun to be had with it..! Especially when you get into honing and restoration..!
Good luck and let us know how you get on...!Last edited by Stubear; 11-13-2009 at 03:53 PM.

The 8 pack of Mach 3 blades is about $25 in the US if I'm not mistaken. I am definitely not sure though since its been about a year and a half since I have bought any. Congrats on a great choice. Of course I hope using a straight works out for you, but if it doesn't there are a ton of great DE Safety Razor options in Europe, particularly Edwin Jagger in the UK.

Well if you take into account that the $15 ones on ebay need to be tightened up, often need some grind work done, and need a professional honing... I think $45 is entirely reasonable. It is still $20 less than the cheapest Dovo, and by all accounts a properly done Gold Dollar is at least as good a shaver.
