Thanked: 1Neck Irritation
I have shaved my neck about three times now, and each time the shave gets more and more comfortable. Not only that, razor burn is decreasing more and more. I think its because I have reduced pressure, flattened out the blade, and increased prep time.
All that aside, my neck has looked ok and felt better and better, but the collar of my shirts have been irritating my neck to the point of rash/ slight breakout at the point of contact on the sides.
Any ideas, maybe change techinque, etc.?

Even though you may not be aware of razor burn by now, your skin may still be sensitive enough after being shaved, that the constant rubbing of you collar irritates it more than usual.

Thanked: 1Ive started using witch hazel and some balm that has shea butter in it. It really soothes it my skin, its afterwards that causes the issue.

Thanked: 96From my experience, which isnt much, I found that I had the same problems as you when I didnt get the spot along my collar smooth enough and sometimes getting that smooth caused irritation itself. I have found I get great results if I really stretch good and make sure the first pass is WTG. The spots on my neck where I always have had irritation turned out to grow in different directions than I thought they did, once I adjusted the irritation went away, well goes away as long as I dont think I have arrived already and slack off. IMO forget about the ATG pass for a while, I use a WTG, and XTG on my neck and come back for a second XTG in opposite direction on my face and jawline, results in a BBS shave most days. Good luck.

Look into what your washing or dry cleaning your shirts with, soaps, fabric softener etc... Some times it is not the shave. I had my dry cleaner stop using starch and the issue cleared up. Also, make sure you use cold water to close the pores on your skin. Helps keep the chemicals from the material from getting into your skin. I shave in the evening. I always splash my face with cold water in the morning just for that reason.
Just a thought.
