shavette to real

i have been using a shavette for a few months now and was starting to get pretty good. made to change to a real straight today omg what a difference the angle need was much lower and at one point forgot how long the blade was and nearly took my ear off lol had a bit of redness nothing to bad but i feel like iam starting to learn all over again anyone else made this change and found it hard or is it just me. hope i can get up to speed quickly

Howdy, yeah I just jumped into srt8 shaving from cartridge razors but in time you will become more aware of the blade and the pressure required to cut your beard without excessive wear on the face. Just take your time and carefully move the blade when repositioning...I find myself slipping at times and moving the blade around like a toothbrush or something, i forget that cuts the face just as equally as my beard...luckily I've never cut myself to date besides a few small nicks...haven't even needed a styptic pencil!
Sounds like your doing good though so what those angles and keep those ears, you might need them someday.

I started out with my grandmas old hair shaper. It takes the same thicker blades the shavette does. I found using a real straight to be a world of difference. The shavette is very unforgicving.

I made the change from a shavette to the real thing after years. For me the switch wasn't harder,just different. My angles had to be adjusted to achieve BBS

I started with a shavette and another hair shaper just to try out straight shaving. I found that when I moved to a fixed straight, my biggest concern was becoming proficient in keeping it sharp and performing well time after time.

Shaving between razors was not a big factor for me and for a time, I did rotate the disposable straights in with the fixed razors, but as time when on, they got used less and less. I still manage to use them once in a while, but fixed staights get 90% of the work.
