Straight Razor Shaving - The Flowchart

Quite a few people think that shaving with a straight razor is complicated. It really is not. Granted, it takes more time than using an electric or a cartridge razor. However, the results are infinitely better, and the added luxury make the extra time quality time for me. If you take a look at the PDF below (click to enlarge), you will see that there is very little magic involved. Experienced shavers use more than one pass, of course.



I hope this helps. I had a hand written version of this on my bathroom mirror for the first few shaves.

That's a great chart, Robin, really breaks it down to the basics. And you're right, it's not rocket science or magic, etc. I've been posting a lot lately about how newbs tend to psych themselves out - about the prep, stropping, maintaining a precise 30 degree angle....- (not that these aren't important) if you overthink it you're actually impeding the learning curve and setting yourself up to fail. I say relax, have fun and enjoy the journey!

I couldn't agree more.

There is a similar tendency in golf by newcomers to the game to psych themselves out about ball positioning, the grip, swing mechanics, etc. Once you push all of that to the back of your mind and it becomes much more relaxing and enjoyable. And you become a better golfer too.
