    Default 1 soap, 1 cream

    Gentlemen,

As I see my first jar of shaving soap (SRD lavender) wither away with use, I'm already looking forward to trying a different soap a cream for the first time.

After some brief browsing on here, it sounds like Tabac soap gets good reviews.

As far as creams, do I really need to buy something expensive like Castle Forbes or is something like Poraso cream a good place to start? I realize you usually get what you pay for but there's quite a difference in price and it seems like a lot of people have either tried Poraso or use it regularly, so I figure it can't be that bad.

If you can, please list your very favorite soap and cream--you'll help my next few months of shaves go well.

As of right now, my favorite soap is MWF or the ogallala sandalwood and bayrum, and creams well even though its a mixture of the 2 in a way Alraz's the bomb is really great IMO , Ive also gotten great results doing an uberlather with Mama Bears soaps, and KISS MY FACE unscented shave cream, they seem to turn out extremely well.

My favourite cream is http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...ing-cream.html, my favourite soap is http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...ving-soap.html. Both are probably the most expensive in the market, and have quite unique scents, which is why I would not recommend them. If you are looking for moderately priced but good products, I would try MWF as a soap (since you have SRD's already) and one of CarrieM's creams. You might want to take a look at our reviews section, though.

for the soap try dr.harris marlborogh wonderfull stuff easy to lather and wonderfull scent.tabac gives you a lot for the money if you like the scent some do, i do not but i still use it from time to time. for your cream. paraso is very good indeed i like it in the summer for its cooling effects,(you will like this at the lake when july comes)and the glide is next to none.als bomb is also very very good, i have sage and love the stuff.

    Stubbles,

Personal taste and your skin type will dictate what you will like to or can shave with.

Currently I have had a bit of a cut-down on my soaps and creams (Please see the 'WTF' thread on SRP ).

Soaps - Tabac and Cella; Palmolive shave stick for travelling
Creams - Musgo Real and Taylors Avocado

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

I've never used a soap, but both creams I have tried have been great imo, they are Castle and Forbes Lime and Domenico Caraceni "1913". All the talk about the scent of the 1913 had me a little nervous but I have to say I really like the scent. Sorry these are not the cheaper alternatives you were looking for but both are great values afaic, with the 1913 being the better of the two.

Thanks for the good advice, everyone. Where can I purchase CarrieM's shaving cream? I looked on a few websites and came up with nothing.

My two favourite soaps are probably Tabac and MWF. Creams I'd have to say Trumpers Sandalwood and Castle Forbes lime. I also love Mama Bears Earl Grey tea soap, thats a really great scent and a thick lather.

That CF lime in particular is awesome. Great lather, and its like sticking your head in a bucket of limes, but withour being over powering! Some of the synthetic oils can be a bit chemically, but this one is really fresh and clean. Love it!
