It's been about two and a half weeks since I first started using a straight razor and the first thing that comes to my mind is....wet shavers are a great bunch of gentlemen. I don't know if they're that way before they start using a straight razor or they become gents because of using one, but everyone who's replied to my few posts has been welcoming, informative and encouraging.
Floppyshoes (Dan G) who brought my old family Boker and Mappin Bros. back to life, was more than generous with his knowledge and always responded promply (and with patience) to my many questions.
Even the two most prominent (here in Canada) online stores have been a pleasure to deal with.
Now on to "The Equipment".
A Boker "Finest India Steel Extra Hollow Ground" and a Mappin Brothers wedge: I don't mind saying the first few shaves were scary, but neither has so much as nicked me so far....thought the Boker still gives the impression it could take my head clean off without much effort.
Trumpers Sandalwood Shave Cream and Provence Santé Green Tea Shaving Soap: I'm addicted to the scent of the Trumpers! And no complaints about it's shaving properties either. The Provence Santé smells "clean". I'm just not sure I'll ever really like it. It does whip up a lather though...and is almost blindingly white.
Brush: I know all you purists out there will cringe but it's synthetic. I found it on eBay while searching for a badger. The description said it was made by Vulfix for someone who wanted to market a "Vegan" shaving brush. For 14 dollars I thought I'd give it a try. Soft, flexible and works up a great lather.
Well, I guess I've taken up enough of everyone's time....those who've made it this far anyway.....and for those who have, Thanks....you're a true gent.
