    Default Expensive Brands

    Hi,

I'm new to SRP and my english is not perfect. Sorry for that. I have one question for you. I know Dubl Duck, Puma and W&B razors are expensive.

I bought on Ebay a Wester Bros Soligen for 20$ including shipping.

Also, i see many <<not so clean>> Puma, W&B and Ducks been sold for more than a hundred bucks each!

Why people pay so much for those brands?

    Thanks

    R.

Welcome to SRP. The brands you mention are collectible as well as having a reputation for being superlative shavers. There are many lesser known Solingen and Sheffield brands that are equally as good and far less expensive. Look for full blades with little hone wear and good solid scales with no cracks and you can put a rotation of excellent shavers together relatively cheaply. Wester Bros is a good brand. Check our the 'Razor Clubs" forum here and you will see examples of the different brands members collect.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The same reason people go out and buy a Rolex or a Mercedes Benz. Names mean alot for many people. Sometimes the name recognition is well deserved and sometimes it's hype. That's a decision each of us has to make.

I think clothing is a better example. Armani shirts are made in the same factory that supplies M&S (a high quality UK supermarket), yet people pay for Armani. I understand the designs are nicer on some Armani shirts, granted, but a white slim fit? Exactly the same and only a small label inside to tell the difference.
