Making Progress

I have been shaving a littlt bit of my face everyday. Today I did two complete passes...except for a small area on my chin (I used a DE). I think in retrospect I messed up the edge on my first straight by improper stropping, I have the cut strop pad to prove it. My shave today was uneventful and pleasant. I give some of that credit to Al's Da Bomb shave cream and Larry Andros's suggestion to apply hair conditioner and leave it on and lather over it.
Also my stropping improved with the SRP modular strop as i said I cut up the first pad and it was easily replaced with a new pad. I actually removed the cutup pad and replaced it with a horse butt leather strap.
One thing I am having problem with is I am right handed, I use my right hand exclusively to shave. I can shave the right side of my face and neck as easy as can be, the left side I get some tugging and some not as close. I'm sure it is a blade angle issue. Well I'll keep working on it.

I am also only right handed only and minimal stretching with my left..if you can use both hands..things may get a little easier as far as angles..just passing some info down from other members though ;-)

Congrats on the progress! Progress is progress regardless of how slowly it is gained.

Sorry, no real advice from me (wish I had more give), so just an observation. Despite being right handed and using my right hand only while shaving, I find I shave much better on my left side.

Don't know if this will help or not...Check out the thread on shaving ice.It's all about the sound you get when you shave.When reference is made about not applying pressure,you'll get that sound which sounds like buttering toast or shaving ice.That's a good thing.Also may I suggest trying to convert you to a cold water shave.It works and is quite refreshing.There is a thread on that as well called cold water shave, simply enough. Keep it up...slow and steady...and I still only use my right hand 5 months later...I've tried my left, but I have enough scars...LOL...

I vote for learning with both hands. I read a number of thread regarding this when I began with a straight. It has served me well. Don't get me wrong....the first time my non-dominant hand held the razor to my face, I was terrified.

Take it slow, and in a couple of weeks with good, consistent practice, it will be comfortable.

I think now that I am getting more comfortable with the razor, I'll try my left hand.
