I guess I've been bitten. I started just after Christmas trying to learn how to shave with a str8 and purchased a 4/8 Smith Bros with strop. That went well and I stopped cutting myself, at least bad cuts, after about two weeks. Then I got my grandfathers old str8 out, a Real Red Point and tried it. That was different, both in actual feel and emotional feel.

Then yesterday I found a J R Torrey. I cleaned it up (not a restoration) and tried it out...Fantastic. I now have 3 distinctly different feeling blades, one is a 4/8 square point that is closer to a wedge than the other two, but not by much, the Red Point is a square point at 5/8 and the Torrey is a round point closer to 6/8. I guess I'm on my way to creating a set of 7 or 8 so I can shave with a different razor each day.

I know they each feel different and I'm not sure which I like the best. I am most at ease with the Smith but that may because that's the one I used the most. I tried all 3 this morning. The Red Point on my left side, cheek and neck, and the Torrey on the right side. Then did clean up with the Smith. I think the Torrey won out this morning. Think I'll wait a couple of weeks to let my technique improve a bit and try it again.
