I just got a scuttle from my fiancee for V-day (totally awesome) and am trying to figure out how to lather in it vs. a bowl which I usually use. Theres just so little room to work the lather in its giving me some trouble.

It's one of the metal or pewter ones where the top part with the holes is removeable, and about as big around as a cake of soap.

To me, it sounds like you are using one of the old fashioned types of scuttle where it is basically a receptacle for hot water and soap and not really to be used to produce a bowl of lather. If so, then you would want to build your lather in a separate bowl or just lather directly on your face. Modern scuttles are very different and are used like a bowl to not only produce the lather but keep it warm at the same time. Then again, I might be missreading what is actually the case.Quote:

Thank you. So do these hold water under a perforated section or just a bowl inside?
it's like a double boiler. the water goes in where the black cork is and you build your lather in the top bowl, which is basically a bowl. No holes in these other than the waterhole. If they were perforated you'd loose lather down into the bottom where you wouldn't be able to get to it. Check out Straight Razor Designs site. They have some good pics with top down views to give you a better idea of how the "newer" scuttles are set-upQuote:
