Need a modest setup... suggestions?
Ok, so having dropped the ball and wasted some cash on some ebay razors, I am looking to get a shave ready vintage from a member here. I need one shave ready and a working strop.
considering the following variable, what should I expect to spend?
-dont care what it looks like
-just need a 100% functioning razor (Hi carbon steel, not stainless), and (this is the most important part here) should come shave ready, honed and stropped by someone qualified.
-strop should be good quality, and have some life left in it. no damage or wear that will affect my learning curve.
Im thinking $50 for the set. Is that reasonable? Too low? Insultingly low?
Thanks guy/gals!

I have only used it a few times.

Thanked: 1262I would order something modular. That way if you cut up the leather, you just have to replace the component.
I think you can get a linen/leather latigo strop for ~$50 from SRD/Vintage/etc...
I have only owned 3 strops, so I can only recommend what I have used. Just please do not skimp on the strop. It is very important.
Just PM me your address.
I will shave with it one last time tonight to check my sanity.

wow...great deal indeed...if you're still looking, check out SRP...I don't have anything to gain from recommending them other than to help turn you on to a quality product...as for bowls and soap, all I've used is Van Der Hagen so that's all I can speak to...seems to work good for me though...a good razor and strop is the key though...learn from these fine folks in here and you'll get started straight ...good luck
