Thanked: 0Just bought my first razor and have some questions
Hey everyone,
New member here and now a new owner of a straight razor. I just recently started thinking about shaving with a straight razor because i figured it would be a fun thing to learn and of course because of the shave. I was thinking of buying a dovo from SRD as my first razor but I was out at the local flee market one day and came across a genco army & navy for $5. So i figured hey its only $5 and i bought it. Other than some small specs of rust, a little staining, and in need of a honing, its in pretty good shape. I was wondering if it would be a good razor for a beginner like myself and who i could send it to to get it honed for a resonable price?

Hi and welcome to SRP.
A Genco Army & Navy is potentially a very good razor.
It really depends on what shape it is in.
Honewear, rust, damage at the edge and so forth.
Check out the classifieds here at SRP and you will find plenty of really good restorers/honers who will be able to help you out, and if at all possible, bring that razor back to its former glory.
Under classifieds, check member services.
Good luck!

Thanked: 1936I have yet to see a Genco that wasn't a good shaver...unless it's buggered up. Post a pic of it!

Thanks for putting up the pictures.
To me, that looks very much like a potentially great shaver
Get it honed up by a pro, and maybe even cleaned up a little, and you would, IMHO, have made a steal at that price!Bjoernar
