Ho wmuch pressure do you use?
you are expected to use fairly strong pressure when doing this. I don't know how much pressure you use, but if you are just using the weight of the thing you are scraping, then it is going to take ages.

Phew, thought I was going to be in a warranty battle for a minute there, I've already shined up one side of a screwdriver, I'll try again with alot more pressure and post back.
cheers Alex

The idea is that breaking it in actually breaks those protruding diamonds out of the nickel setting. If you are just rubbing it gently, the nickel will hold the diamond with little trouble. In that case, the diamond itself will outlive any attempt to wear it down. After all, it is diamond.
Ah, now I get it, I thought it was like breaking in a new pair of jeans as opposed to actually breaking it :)
I was thinking about purchasing a D8C, and this is good to know, great thread!
I would try focusing on those spots with the screwdriver or whatever. If that doesn't smooth it out I might want to give Dia-Sharp a phone call on Monday and arrange to send it back for a replacement.
Got the plate superflat and smooth now, took about 5 mins. soaking ma naniwa right now to lap it.
EDIT: wow I love this plate, naniwa was really needing a lapping and my coti is super flt now as well, all good, well worth the price, and less hassle than silicon carbide paper, And I think I need to read instructions in the future... men eh?
thanks guys, replies greatly appreciated
