I used to view shaving as a chore, another task in the day. But then I started using a straight razor a couple weeks ago--I think it was the 10th of September--and I'm looking forward to shaving again within a few minutes of slathering some aftershave balm on my face and stropping the razor before casing it up.

I now have about a dozen shaves under my belt, and it seems I'm getting the hang of this sport. I've learned to pay attention at all times, hold the razor very lightly, take my time, and enjoy the process. I wouldn't say I'm getting the proverbial baby-butt smooth shave, but I think I'm getting the best shave I ever had.

I don't shave on the weekends--like to give my face a rest. But on the other days, shaving days, my wife now laughs at me as I excitedly announce that I'm anticipating a great shave. I never looked forward to shaving before and can only say I wish I started this straight razor thing earlier.

I'm hooked and I'll never look at a safety razor the same way again.
