I did the same thing with my spike point Torrey, except my cut was vertical. I felt a nick and flinched. The flinch turned the nick into a 2 plus inch cut that was deep at the spike end and very thin but shallower at the opposite end. I thought that I was going to have a permanent "dueling scar". It looked bad for a week and then started to lose the scab and fade. Four months later, it has faded to the extent that it is invisible except with very close up careful observation. No one but me notices, and I notice only if I look for it.
