    Smile Another Newbie

    Hey all,
I been lurking a few days and thought I would just say hey. Well I been looking into this and I wanna give it a shot.
So just in the process of getting everything i need to start.

    I first found http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StraightRazors/
And after a bit of chatting on there someone offered to loan me a straight razor, so hopefully I'll be able to start practicing myself. And from what I've seen on here, and a Google Video of one of the members, I think I will become infected with obsession myself.
Looking forward to a lot of learning.
And when I can afford it, to start amassing my own collection.

Welcome to the forum and the addictive world
of straight razors. Don't be shy about asking
questions - that's why were here and what
    keeps this forum going.

I'm sure when your razor arrives that
    you will do fine.

How about a strop???? You will definately
    need one.

    Check out www.thewellshavedgentleman.com

This is the site of Tony Miller a forum member.
He sells first rate strops at a very reasonable
    price.

Oh, do you know if the razor is shave ready?

Yes, the guy is going to make it shave ready before he sends it to me.
So I should be ok on that front.

Yeah, I been looking at that site a minute or so, it looks a valuable resource and no doubt i will be a future customer some time.

Welcome to the Straight Razor Shaver's support group.

Lots of good information here. If there's anything you need to know, just ask, and someone will give you an answer. A correct answer costs extra.

Welcome aboard. It's always good to have another person with a SIAD or three (Shaving Item Acquistion Disorder). I am warning you in advance that you will develop SOME, but you're not alone. Read the help files, do some more lurking, ask some questions and enjoy the ride!

Welcome aboard, I've only been with the group for a couple of months and I can tell you you can't find a better bunch of guys, the site is very informative sometimes you have to do a little searching but it's there, or you can send a personal e-mail or post to one of the honemisters and they will come back with very clear answers.

This is a place with a bunch of great honest guys. I started with a cheap disposable blade made by Fromm. But with the help of the guys here, I have been able to restore three old razors one was my grandfathers and the other given to me by my barber and I bought one to restore off e-bay which are the only three I have now which are Peerless, Hornet and a Sheffield Magbell #42 all old, but work good after being restored. I can't afford all the fancy stuff that some of the other guys have but I've started out with a regular coffee mug for my $1.50 Williams soap, a cheap boars brush for $6.00 a friend sent me a strop free and Tilly at redtrader99 sold me the beginners set of hones at http://www.redtrader99.com/hones.html . So hang in there collect a little at a time and you will collect enough to work with. Check with some of your family that's how I got my grandfather razor my aunt had saved it, so see if any one in your family has any items. You might be surprised.

    Hey there and welcome!

I'm a newbie too but I'll say this is one fine group of people you've joined up with.

I haven't actually started straight shaving yet so I have no advice to offer but if you ever need soap check out the "Colleen's Soap" thread. Collen makes awesome soaps and shaving cream soaps. Well worth a try.

Also, to echo everyone else, ask, ask, ask. I've found everyone on here to be genuinely interested in sharing their knowledge and helping everyone out.

    Most of all, just enjoy!!
