Thread: first timers' kit

I've done a few shaves with my dad's blade but he wants me to have my own. Is there a kit with a good blade, strop, stone, soap and brush? I have 100USD total for all this, so it can't be that everlasting stuff.

I'm pretty new to this wet shaving thing myself, so I can't offer much information. But, if you want a nice brush on the cheap, and you don't mind mixing up some 30 minute epoxy, check out The Golden Nib. They sell badger knots in various grades and resin handles. I was surprised at the low cost. I bought their very best grade of badger knot (super silver tip) in 24mm for $33. They have plenty of other grades that look sweet for less $. I put the knot together in a resin handle that I also bought from them, and I love it. Hope this helps.

buy a nice shave ready razor on classifieds on this forum and an nice soap+boar brush and use now for the time you dads strop and stone.

part of the purchase was to teach me how to use my own strop and stone. there's a chance he may let me use the stone, but he's made it clear I'm not to touch the strop (i might cut). note: he's a bit greedy.

Are you in Australia at all mate? I can help you out with regards a strop if you are. I don't do overseas though. Costs go through the roof.

I started out with the sight unseen deal from whippeddog.com, the razor came shave ready, bought myself a cheap badger brush and some williams mug soap from amazon for around $75 total.

But watch out that RAD is a slippery slope.
