I'm brand new here. I was given a straight razor today, but no info. Does anyone know anything about this razor? I know pretty much nothing about this thing. Anyone know how old it is? Thanks!Attachment 92839Attachment 92840

Check out the Boker Brotherhood. It has a number of similar razors. I'll check the wiki in a sec for you too.
Here's what I found:

Looks like 1924- 1935 year range.
I can tell you it's a Boker "King Cutter" -- I have two similar to it (but in worse condition). Except for the rust near the pivot, it looks like it's in excellent condition.
It will be a very good shaver, after it's been honed.
They aren't "top-of-the-line" razors -- no fancy features -- but good steel, well-ground. The scales are likely to be plastic. [I may be corrected by more-knowledgeable members.]

PS -- i forgot about the "Boker Brotherhood" .. . sorry . .
Boker, King Cutter , one of the highly respected brands, and one of their top shavers.. Looks to be in pretty good shape too, hone it or have it cleaned and honed and yer ready to go
In the Razor subforum is the "Boker Brotherhood" search it out for a ton of info and pics
Boker King Cutter? - legendary razor. I'd say its from the early to mid 1900's. Looks to be in great condition - have her pro honed and you'll be away!
No need to post the same thing twice, I left it in the Beginners Forum as I am pretty sure you will have more questions as you get more info..

yup, "nothing special at all" :argue: the king cutter is just a superb razor from back in the day when razors were just tools to remove your beard, not the high art that we are making it these days. as for date this model was made from around 1900-1930. and in the old boker catalog (1906) you could get the king cutter with all sorts of fancy scales as well.
manderso on the back of the tang does it say "made in germany" or at least "germany" or "girmany"?
Welcome to SRP!!! You are off to a good start with one of the best shavers out there. I learned with a Boker over 40 years ago, still have it, and still love the shave it gives. Have her honed by one of our pros and enjoy the ride! When you decide that straight shaving is for you, look for a second used razor and a barber hone. Have the second razor pro honed and use the barber hone to keep it touched up and compare your efforts to the Boker. With the Boker, you have a proper shaving razor to compare your efforts at honing to. It will take time and patience, but the reward of straight shaving is worth it. There is just too much to learn quickly and you have to go through the learning curve. You will never know everything about straight shaving, as I and all other long term straight shavers will tell you that you learn something new all the time. It is a great journey and we all welcome newcomers so that our art will not be forgotten. Read all you can and watch the videos. All the very best, and HAPPY SHAVING, John
I just received on in great condition today, too. Hope you enjoy yours!
Wow! It's awesome that you learned on a Boker too and still have it. 40 years ago at that! I love the idea that I can take care of this blade and have it last for years and years to come. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were watching my dad or my granddad shaving. Hopefully, my kid will have the same interest in me shaving with my straight that I had watching my dad and granddad shaving with their double edge blades. And hopefully, I can pass a nice blade down to my kid when he is old enough. Thanks for all the advice!
Very nice razor! You should be proud to learn on that. Welcome to SRP!
