Anyone got a razor for a newb?

I'm really looking forward to trying out a straight razor. I've read as much as I can on the subject int he past few days and went to a local knife shop to see what they had. The cheapest razor they had was $60, and a strop for $40, which at this point in time is way too much money for me. I don't know of any old-school barbers around here though I'm keeping my eyes peeled for garage sales.

If anyone here has a razor, strop, etc they'd be willing to part with relatively cheap <$20 or so I'd be interested. By the way I'm in Savannah, GA, in case any of you know a good place to go to find one around here.

I was looking on ebay and sometimes I thought I found a decent one, but being a newb and trying to determine quality from ebay pictures is pretty tough. :thinking:

Check www.billysblades.com or http://shop.writerferret.com/ Those sites are owned by SRP members and have some good deals, probably not less than $20.00 though. You may want to create a post in the buy sell trade forum as well.

You just got it today?!:eek: Wow, the mail is running slow lately. I've got another guy I sent one to last week that still doesn't have it. In fact, I think I sent it to him the same day I sent yours. I feel a bit better knowing it's probably just a mail delay, but it's kinda aggravating, too. I think you'll like that Wilbert. It shaved nice.

You mailed my razor on Monday. It may have arrived sooner
since I haven't checked my PO Box since Saturday.

I found an excuse to leave work early today just to check the
mail. That and I have to go to a hanging....... I mean a wedding.
Fortunately, it's not mine.

I have no doubt that I will like the razor. Looking forward to
shaving with it in the morning.

Aw c'mon Joe.....after a month on the phone with me, you learned how to hone a razor. I still sell them too, but now you have to learn the true purpose of why the group was started...........hahahahahahaha.
