Disinfect yes, sterilize no. The only thing that would remain on a blade is Hep-C and that dies in a couple weeks. HIV and Hep-B dies within a couple minutes of being outside the body. As such, honing up and shaving with a razor that is 100 years old is really a non-issue. I've shaved with dozens of vintage blades over the last few years and on recent screen, I'm clean.
Seriously? You have to CONVINCE somebody to let you shave???? I don't know what SWMBO is.
I could be wrong but I think a steam autoclave will not temper the steel, and it will effectively sterilize the blade.
Excessive? probably. Necessary? Doubtful.
I thought there were various chemicals that could be used for sterilization as well....but I am no doctor.
Some scale materials are very sensitive to temperatures as well. I wouldn't put my great-grandpappy's razor with celluloid scales in an autoclave.
SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed)
also otalicus feel lucky she's just putting up a fuss about a used razor i know a guy who had to build a new house because his wife didn't want to live in a used one and/or one that somebody might have died in
There's so many things I'd like to say but I'm sure any single one would get me tossed from the board...
My cheap and easy solution has been a glass of vodka for it to soak in for each step of the way. I am pretty sure anything that may have been on my duck couldn't have survive the cumulative hours of soaking in vodka.
