Honing gone right
I'm loving this new hobby. Everything about it!
My latest conquest has been honing and I think I'm onto something good here. I have honed 6 so far and the results keep getting better and better.
Yesterday was my best result. This thing shaved better than my Escher honed Hart (gasp).
Anyway thanks for sharing in my enthusiasm.

nice vid going to hone my own razors as soon as i get the funds to buy a waterstone did you finish the blade with any higher grits or was it shave ready after the norton?

As a before photo I am honing the top razor in this photo.
It had a bit of a frown when I got it.

It was shave ready off the 8k (and 100 laps on a leather strop). It shaved very nicely, but then I went back to a Naniwa SS 12k and it was truly sensational to shave with.Originally Posted by Bluerain

Here are some "after" photos:
In the second photo, there is a reflection that makes it look like a wide bevel. The bevel is a very thin ribbon of bright steel and hard to see. I'm really pleased with the uniformity I got.

Very nice, good work! I also use the same stones, and I agree, the edges are amazing coming off the Naniwa 12k. It's a good feeling when you can put a wicked sharp yet smooth edge on your own razors. Keep having fun.

The top one is the razor in the video, and the photos posted above.
I can post photos of the others later.
The red handled one in this video is the one in the middle of that 'before' picture.
The one I pull out and show the blade drop out of the handle on (in the video below) is the one in the other video (and from the top of the 'before' photo). It had been partially restored (some rust removed, and the frown has been ground out of the blade).
