Default Loaner Set For Newbies, Well Shaved Gentleman

Okay guys. I have a Dovo 5/8 razor, a slightly used pasted paddle and a basic hanging strop from a friend who simply does not have the dexterity to use these effectively. As I will not resell a used set I want to make a proposal to new guys who do not yet own equipment.

I will send these out, as a loaner, honed and ready to go to the first Newbie who sends me a PM through this forum. Simply click my name at the top of the post and select send a Private Message. Once you get the set try it for up to two weeks, ask questions and see what you think.....is straight razor shaving for you? Once finished with the 2 week trial you must mail it off to the next fellow on the list, etc.... or back to me for a touchup honing if you feel you dulled it too much to shave. Each person gets the same 2 week trial with the equipment and can then decide if straight razor shaving is something for them. Each soaps, mugs, brushes, CLEANING, etc...are up to you but this will let you try this out before buying anything.

Your only obligation is to eventually mail it at your expense to another member. Each recipient is responsible for cleaning this to his satisfaction before use. Postage is usally around $7 to $8 less insurance. Every few guys it ought to come back for a honing just in case.

Let me kow if anyone is interested.

This is a super idea, Tony! I hope someone who is interested takes advantage of what has to be the best introduction to straight shaving I've heard of so far.

I already have a taker for the first go and the set will be off to him in a few days. I wil keep a list of names to be forwarded to whomever currently holds the set, and on down the list.

Sgt, Tomlin, your supplies are on their way as well as of a few days ago.

    Thanks,
    Tony

Tony, that's a VERY generous offer. I know what I just spent to get set up right and it's a fair sized financial risk without knowing for sure if you're going to like it.

To anyone contemplating his offer, I just recently started using a straight myself and I lucked into one of Tony's kits as I was getting started. His gear is all top quality stuff and there's no better way to start out. It makes straight shaving MUCH more enjoyable and good equipment really is much safer to use.

OK, guys, I'm the fellow in question. At first I thought there might have been a problem with the blade. Checked it out under a microscope, and it looked good to me. Sent it back to Tony, who verified that the blade was ok. Back to me, and this time, watching carefully, I realized that as a result of 2 neurosurgeries, there's no way I can manage a straight. The left hand is totally useless, and my right simply lacks the control. Had to give up piano along the way, too. I didn't nick myself, but had no way of managing the blade to get any kind of decent shave. I still get great shaves with a DE, and I guess that's where it'll have to stay. But you get at least an inkling of what a first-rate gentleman Tony is.
Sorry not to be a Str8 man,
