First Straight Razor Shave and Question
I did my first straight razor shave tonight. I chose to do my head instead of my face because I normally grow a beard out from November 1st on to be Santa for the kids at Christmas.
I had let the hair on my head grow out to about 3/4 of an inch - which is a length that is almost impossible to do with a normal safety razor without going through at least two blades and endless gunking of the blade.
I used the newly purchased 9/8 Wade Butcher and it was just incredible! It made quick work of the sides and top of my head as well as the back, which took me a bit longer than the rest because I had difficulty figuring out how to hold the straight razor back there.
The only real significant problem I had was around my ears and behind them. I couldn't figure out how to hold the razor in an angle proper to cutting behind my ear. I wound up slicing pretty good the tops of both my ears and ultimately failed because I had to use a safety razor for these two spots.
All in all, I think that I will really enjoy this straight shaving of my head if I can get this behind the ear and over the top of the ear figured out.
Could any of you suggest a real good video that shows hand positioning and technique for this area of the head? Or should I use a smaller blade for this area?
Thank-you in advance for any help
