Default First Straight Razor Shave and Question

I did my first straight razor shave tonight. I chose to do my head instead of my face because I normally grow a beard out from November 1st on to be Santa for the kids at Christmas.
I had let the hair on my head grow out to about 3/4 of an inch - which is a length that is almost impossible to do with a normal safety razor without going through at least two blades and endless gunking of the blade.
I used the newly purchased 9/8 Wade Butcher and it was just incredible! It made quick work of the sides and top of my head as well as the back, which took me a bit longer than the rest because I had difficulty figuring out how to hold the straight razor back there.
The only real significant problem I had was around my ears and behind them. I couldn't figure out how to hold the razor in an angle proper to cutting behind my ear. I wound up slicing pretty good the tops of both my ears and ultimately failed because I had to use a safety razor for these two spots.
All in all, I think that I will really enjoy this straight shaving of my head if I can get this behind the ear and over the top of the ear figured out.
Could any of you suggest a real good video that shows hand positioning and technique for this area of the head? Or should I use a smaller blade for this area?
Thank-you in advance for any help

    Thank you Glen!
I will keep searching the videos out there.
Maybe it will be easier with the smaller blade that you are working on for me, but the bigger blade worked so well everywhere else.
I will wait a few days and try again

I am also a newbie to straight razors and a head shaver of 12 years. I experience the same thing. For now I am content to share my straight with my R41 for those hard to reach places. There is something about gliding that blade over your head that will drive us to find a solution though. I won't feel complete until I can shave my face and head entirely with a straight. Good luck!

The idea of shaving my head with a straight would scare the living hell out of me. I'm only 4 shaves in with a straight, & I'll be happy when I can do that without nicking myself. I'll stick to the clippers for my big baldy head thanks.
