Thanked: 36First try
Well, my straight razor took a week and a half at UK customs and a further week waiting in some depot in Rotherham over the holidays and I still don't have it. It should be arriving at my parents place tomorrow so then I only have to wait for them to post it to me in Norway and I can finally try it out. I got bored of waiting, so I picked up a bluebeards revenge shavette from amazon to be going on with. Not the most comfortable shave i ever had, but I shaved my whole face first time out and only had one small nick on my chin so i was quite pleased with myself. That seems the trickiest area for me, I have quite heavy growth there and the angle is hard to get right. Using my left hand wasn't as difficult as I had feared.
My second attempt was more comfortable as I was using less pressure and taking more care with the angle. Just a tiny nick under the nose that time. Tomorrow I will have shave number three with it and hopefully will not draw blood at all. I'm so looking forward to using a decent straight razor.
I picked up some wilkinson sword blades to use in the shavette. Of the two brands in the shop it was the one I'd heard of. The other was lazer. I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on DE blade brands, although I'm not planning on using the shavette once my straight razor arrives.
Happy new year everyone!
