Thanked: 0New to the boards, not so much the razor, lot to learn though!
Hi, I've been lurking around for about 5 months now. Bought my first straight about 2 months ago, a Dovo Black Star from SRD. A 5/8 full hollow round point razor. Avoiding the advice i had read i did a full shave the first time. Came out acceptable, mouth/chin area definitely needed some work though. Second shave i decided to try from my side burn to my cheek and literally made a face at myself at how much easier it was than what i thought it would be. Been improving since then, and confident with my left hand and have been working more and more on getting a full 3 way shave. Having decided that this was for me, i haven't used anything but a straight since it came in the mail, i went ahead and bought a brian brown from crzylizrd. A 8/8 1/4 hollow spanish point, and a good bit shorter blade than my Dovo. Shaved with it for the first time yesterday and it was the first time i had no problems WTG>XTG>ATG. I have a thick beard so i wanted to try a bigger and heftier razor. I know my dovo has probably gotten dull over the 2 months of me using it but man it never shaved like the brian brown. I really like the weight/thickness/spanish point/shorter blade. It will definitely be what i look for in a razor for the future. Just a new guys experience i wanted to share, and Thank you everybody for all of your help. I did a lot of reading before i jumped in, if someone had just given me a strop and a razor i would not have a clue what to do.
