What does it mean when they say the razor "sings"?
and a quick hello...I'm new.
That's the high pitched noise when stropping. Some razors do it anyway some only when they are stropped with the spine lifted from the leather.
TI razors are famous for it. I have once heard that TI chuck any razor that does not sing.
You may also here is when the razor is "plucked", so to speak. When done so, a 'singing' razor will give off a nice ring.
I don't think TI throws out ever razor that doesn't sing. It's just that razors in their certain lines must do so.
Welcome!
interesting - didn't know about the stropping.
I always thought a singing razor is one that makes the ping / twink sounds when you shave arm / leg hair mid-stalk. You can actually hear different distinct notes, as opposed to when stropping.

Don't strum a honed edge. That's the best way to ruin all that efford and to necessitate removing more metal.
On a un-honed razor I rub my thumb over the blade at right angles quickly and there is a definite lasting ring. I check most blades but few do it.

You're right: the singing is explained here: http://www.classicshaving.com/articl...90351/9362.htm
It also tells you at the bottom that non-singing razors are discarded.
