Default What I've Learned as a Newbie

Thought I would pass this on as I have been using a straight razor for about a month now. I am hoping this will help others out there new to this.

    1. Take your time. I learned that when you start this is not going to be a fast process. If anything, this has shown me how much in a hurry we are. Anything that slows you down is good I believe.

    2. Light Touch. I was having horrible razor burn until I read the posts on not using too much pressure. Once I did that, the razor burn stopped. Keeping the right angle was key also.

    3. Skill. Using a straight razor is a skill - if it was easy everyone would do it. Developing a skill takes time, but the feeling of accomplishment I have this early into it is pretty great.

Appreciate all the other help out there and hope this will also help others.

    Thanks

Those key points are certainly easier said than done. At least the proper angle and pressure part. I have no issue personally with taking my time. That's what shaving with a straight razor is all about for me. The relaxation and lengthy slow process that is involved.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
