Thread: new to straight shaving help!

Hi i have been shaving with a straight for about a month,started off shaving a balloon (don't laugh) to get accustomed to the feel of the straight and i have built up to shaving my face and head with no problems however my razor needed sharpening so i honed it and stropped it myself to the point it was sharp enough to pass all the tests including tree tops and hanging hair but when i shave with it it like shaving with a butter knife could i have ruined the blade ? It does shave but not very well and it feels like its really tugging at my skin my lather is good i also tried hot and cold method and i use oil under the lather . Any suggestions ? i used various welsh wet stones finishing on a 12k stone and its my first time honing but i practised on a old razor first and really took my time about 5 hrs actually but 5 hrs doing it good or bad i cant really say just looked at loads of utube vids first.
