Here is my basic equipment. Beleive it or not, a survived my first straight razor shave. I must admit I did a very good job and made no cuts at all, but the result is not that excellent. I think a made a better shave when I was 16 :). I took my time and step by step went trought this amazing experience. But now I have more questions than before. For sure I have to practise my hand and left side of the face is most challenging. One thing is certain, the razor was not sharp enough. I felt the blade tearing hair and no cutting it. I will send the Bismarck to a guy in Croatia to hone it profesionally. Also the strop was not good and as it was new, even after 70 strokes on each side I did not reach the goal of "sheave ready" blade.
Now I can't wait fot hair to grow :)
Waiting for some help guys
Congrats on the Bismarck. As for shaves, it will only get better from here. :)
Am I the only one cringing at the blade edge resting on the brush?
Don't worry it is just right next to it. Today my second shave and it is just perfect. Made three pases and my face is so smooth like never before.
Congrats on that new Dovo! I have a simpler version of the same blade, and find it ergonomically perfect. Any more, that shape of Dovo blade is the one I recommend, even if it isn't the cheapest option. Enjoy your better and better shaves.
I would just buy all of them and take any guess work out.:tu
Yesterday I sent the razor for profesional honing to a guy in Croatia. Can't wait to get it back. I have shaved for 5 times now in every time it's getting better.
