What Dovo razor to choose?
Hello Straightrazor shavers. I'm from Slovenia, a bordering country to Austria and close to Germany where Dovo Solingen is made. Because I decided to become a straight razor shaver I joined to this fabolous site. I've been reading through forums and many other chapters, but I'm still so confused which razor to buy. The fact I live in the "Dovo area" I have planty of models to choose. Searching on German and Austrian sites I have come to few models I think would do the job, but in this case I would like to have yours opinion too. Please give me a help, I will really appreciate it.
Here are some models:

Thanked: 247Razor purchases (IMO) should be based on a few priorities. Assuming that you narrow the search down to high quality razors that are very capable of taking a shave ready edge (you have) it is ALL about personal preferences.
If you want mine, I would select the second image because I like shoulderless designs and I tend to like square points.
For a beginner, a round point might be a safer choice, and I might go with something affordable (things like gold wash and precious handles add to the price with zero contribution to performance). OTOH, if you know how to properly care for the piece, buy what speaks to you. If treated well, it should last several lifetimes.

unit is right, it will come down to preference. Myself, I like the first razor. I like simple, non-fancy models and the wooden scales. I also like round points. The size and grind will vary.
Since you live in the Dovo area, then I assume that you can buy the razors for less than what is offered online. That may be why you chose razors with gold on them.
My first straight razor is a Dovo Best Quality, 6/8, 1/4 hollow. I use it regularly and it shaves well. You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

Any of them will be more than adequate,
if you allow yourself to try other styles as you get into it your preference for blade size and style may change.
I prefer spike/square and French/Irish points as they seem to lend themselves to being better for detail work.
Many say learning with a round point is easier and I would tend to agree,
but if your technique is correct the point does not matter.
If it were me I would get the second one down but it is a very personal choice.

Thanked: 8I second the round point. I also second the gold wash comment as well, even though I have violated it too much. Indifferent to the shoulder issue. Best wishes.

I think a basic inexpensive razor is best for a beginner. Round tip, 5/8 with plastic scales. Good quality metal, but if you stick with Dovo quality and metal is a none issue. Good luck!

Maybe it would be easier for you to take a look on prices too. It starts from cca.70 eur to .....

Thanked: 1195I think it's safe to say you can't go wrong with any Dovo. Since there's so much variety it basically comes down to price point and aesthetics. My advice would be to choose a price range and pick the model that speaks to you

dovo is good quality so any of those choices will work fine. if I was to choose i would pick the second one down, like Unit i like the shoulderless design as well as square points.
