OK, I think I know the answer already, but I'm gonna ask anyways.

Any thoughts on this model? DV-101586 (Centre du Rasoir : Straight razor)

I'm guessing the answer is "can't go wrong with a Dovo". $90 I guess is reasonable for a first razor, yes? Going to have it honed by Centre du Rasoir (they do it for $30).

    Hi Ryan
With all due respect, centre du rasoir usually sharpen kitchen knives. Straight razors need to be sharpened by someone who actually shaves with one.

For sure I have to practise my hand and left side of the face is most challenging. One thing is certain, the razor was not sharp enough. I felt the blade tearing hair and no cutting it. I will send the Bismarck to a guy in Croatia to hone it profesionally. Also the strop was not good and as it was new, even after 70 strokes on each side I did not reach the goal of "sheave ready" blade.
Now I can't wait fot hair to grow
    Waiting for some help guys
Congrats on surviving your first straight shave unscathed!

I don't think anyone else has picked up on this so I'll mention it even if I'm a bit late to the thread: if your razor wasn't shave-ready when it arrived, don't blame your strop for not making it shave-ready.

The strop's job is not to make a dull razor shave-ready, it is to maintain an already good edge. If your razor didn't have a good edge, then all the stropping in the world wouldn't fix it. That is a job for hones.

Hopefully your honer in Croatia will get it properly honed for you, and you'll be set!

    Good luck

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Well, I'll double check with them tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

I too like the shoulderless razors and will one day have a bismarck. I was about to buy one but finally found a Flowing.
    I also like fancy spines.
