Why not gather the pelt and make a deal with a brush maker? Try, "Ah'll gev ye thes hyar piggy pelt fer'n a small whack or brushes frum 'em".

I know this is off topic, but is there something about Beavers that means their hair doesn't make good brushes? I've heard Beaver pelts are quite soft. Are Beavers protected?

Beavers are classified as rodents here in TX. They tend to be regarded as pests, but I guess there is some possibility of using their hair for brushes. I think that the problem with beaver hair is that it is greasy and repels the water you want it to hold. That's why they use it to make hats.
All this boars hair business is too much trouble. You just need a pet cat. If you tape all four paws together, you have a natural handle. Of course you either need a small kitten, or a big lathering bowl...
